Mac device does not recognize USB4 enclosure solution

首页    FAQ    Mac device does not recognize USB4 enclosure solution

1. Insert the USB 4 enclosure into the Thunderbolt port of the Mac device, the LED indicator of the USB 4 enclosure will light up green.

The name of the inserted device will appear on the desktop of the Macbook. When a new SSD is used for the first time, it needs to be Erase in Disk Utility first.

2. If no new external storage device is displayed on the desktop of the mac device, check whether the LED of the USB4 enclosure is on? The green LED is lit even if no SSD is installed or the wrong type of SSD is installed. If the LED lights up, skip to step 3 below.

If the LED indicator is not lit, the cable may be defective. Check whether the cable of Thunderbolt3 in the package is used? At the same time, a new Thunderbolt or USB4 cable can be replaced for confirmation. If the LED indicator cannot be lit after the SSD is removed and the cable is replaced, it is possible that the device itself has a failure. You can contact the support mailbox for handling.

3. If the LED lights up at this time, but no new external storage device is displayed on the desktop of the MAC device, it is possible that the SSD is not installed correctly. Please refer to the SSD installation guide below to reinstall the SSD.

4. If the USB 4 device cannot be displayed on the Mac desktop after the SSD is reinstalled, the SSD may be defective or of an unsupported type, which can be confirmed by following the steps below.
You can enter the System information page of the Mac device. Under Hardware, under the Thunderbolt/USB4 option, and under Thunderbolt Bus, you will find an device Name: USB4, which means that the USB4 enclosure has been recognized.

At this time, even if there is no SSD installed, just insert the empty USB 4 enclosure, and you will find Device Name: USB4.

At this point, if the device with Device Name: USB4 cannot be found under the Thunderbolt/USB4 option, it means that the USB 4 Enclosure is not recognized by the MAC device. The following possible solutions:

First: Please check whether the Thunderbolt3 cable in the product accessories is used, and do not use other usb cables.

If the speed of the USB cable used cannot reach 40Gbps, the device will only appear under the USB of the hardware, not under Thunderbolt/USB4. At this time, it is necessary to replace the cable with a transmission speed of 40Gbps, such as Thunderbolt 3/4 cable or USB4 40Gbps cable.

Second: Please re-plug and unplug the two ends of the USB 4 Enclosure cable, or change the direction.
Third: Please restart your MAC device and reinsert the USB 4 Enclosure device.

5. In the NVMExpress option under Hardware, you can find a Generic SSD Controller. The following shows the brand, model and capacity of the SSD used in the USB4 enclosure.
In the Storage option under Hardware, you can also find information such as the model and capacity of the SSD used.

5. If the Generic SSD Controller and the used SSD information cannot be found in the NVMExpress option under Hardware, it means that the SSD is not an NVMe SSD, which may be an unsupported type such as SATA SSD.
At this point, you need to check the type of SSD, and select the NVMe SSD supported by the USB4 enclosure for use.

The UC4M2 SSD Enclosure is specially designed for M Key & B+M Key PCIe NVMe SSD up to 8TB capacity. The applicable M.2 SSD size is 2280.
Not compatible with SATA SSD, mSATA, or PCIe AHCI SSDs, only for NVMe M.2 SSD.

The recommended SSDs for Mac devices are the 980PRO and SN850 based on the speed and temperature control of the SSD.

If the above steps have been confirmed and the device cannot be found, please contact Ankmax’s support team directly and describe the problem you encountered in detail, and email support@ankmax.com, we will reply to you as soon as possible.
